Moving day regrets often include paint that is scuffed, door frames that are chipped, and damaged flooring. The good news is – with a little preparation and the proper materials, most damage can be avoided.
1) Clear the route first
Measure from every room to the front door before anything is lifted. Clear trip hazards such as throw rugs, slippers, toys, and loose cords. Prop open doors all the way so movers aren’t pushing past handles. For advice from Removals Cheltenham, contact Express Removals
2) Cover floors appropriately
Use floor runners or a layer of cardboard sheets to protect hard floors (wood, laminate tile).
Carpets: (use carpet film/runners) particularly on light-coloured carpets and hallways.
Mats by your door will help add protection, and keep a towel about to wipe off wet shoes.
3) Give stairs extra attention
Stairs take the most impact. Set a runner or heavy-duty cardboard on the treads, with tape beneath to secure it in place so it does not move. Light the stairwell and keep handrails unobstructed.
4) Wrap door frames and banisters
Wardrobes, couches, and bed frames all bash door frames. Use:
Moving blankets
Foam corner protectors
Cardboard taped around tight corners
5) Break down larger, bulky items when possible
Removing the doors of a wardrobe, taking off table legs, or even stripping down bed frames also reduces awkward corners and eliminates any nasty bangs.
6) Communicate what matters
When you are moving, be sure to direct the movers if any areas have recently been painted, new flooring has just been laid, or there is a narrow turn. Keep in mind, most will bring protection materials, but a mark above these areas, noting ‘high risk’, can make all the difference.
This will take you minutes from your overall project prep time, but can save hours in touch-ups later.
