Copper – An Essential Part of Our Diet and Part of a Healthy Body

Metals like copper are something that we most commonly tend to associate as things that are used to make things like this copper pipe watkinspowis.co.uk/products/copper-pipe-fittings-and-press-systems for example – however, metals, including copper are also very important for our health too.

Having the right amount of copper in your body helps it to fight illnesses and infections, and works with iron in the body in order to produce haemoglobin. Your body absorbs copper that can be naturally found in certain foods, such as leafy greens, some nuts and pulses and even cocoa! However, for your body to be able to properly absorb the copper that it needs, it needs other vitamins and minerals to also play a part.

The minerals that help the body to absorb copper include vitamin C and manganese – because certain vitamins and minerals often use each other to make your body healthy, it is important to make sure that you are getting a healthy balanced diet that is rich in all the things that your body needs.

Most people are able to get all of the copper that they need in their diet via the food that they eat, but if a doctor finds that your body is deficient in copper, they can provide you with supplements to boost the amount that your body is getting and get you up to a healthy level. Some people also wear a copper bracelet – these are believed to help with certain ailments like arthritis as small amounts of the copper can be absorbed through the skin and used to reduce inflammation.

If you are unsure if you are deficient in copper or don’t know if you are getting enough of it in your diet, you should firstly see a doctor who will be able to check for you. Having too  much copper can also give you side effects, including liver problems, so it is a good idea to check first to make sure that you get the balance right! This is particularly important if you are already taking other medications, as some of these increase the amount of copper in the body, so this is also something that you should be aware of.
