The Roman Baths

The Roman Baths

The Romans introduced many modern inventions to the world, and one of the most well known of these are the Roman Baths. Although it was also known that the ancient Greeks had public baths too, it was the Romans that took them to new heights, making improvements and spreading their popularity all across the Roman Empire.

Baths of the ancient Romans were a luxurious experience complete with lavish decorations and additional rooms that included a gym and swimming pool – very like modern day health clubs! Roman visitors to the Baths would often be rubbed with essential oils to help them get the most relaxing and beneficial experience from their time at the baths, and there were often other treatment rooms attached to the baths.

Technologically the baths were really advanced for their time. Nowadays, we see solar power as a relatively new thing, that many people go to companies like this solar panel installation Portishead based company for redbridgeandsons.co.uk/solar-pv-panels/solar-panel-installers-portishead but the Romans had long been aware of using the power of the sun to heat the baths of their time.

They also used amazing machinery like the Hypocaust to move heated water around the baths.

There are many places in the UK where you can go and visit Roman Baths in various states of repair – the most famous and most visited though is of course the city of Bath itself – named for the very reason that it was a Roman bathing hub!
