The Induction – or ‘Day One’ as we call it – is a starting point for new employees, so they have some idea of what to expect.
Documents to Bring on Day One
Proof of ID and address: You will need to provide the Selco branch with the following documents to prove your identity and right to work, and any other evidence of address that they may require. This can be handed in on your first day and enables the correct administration to take place without delay.
Health and Safety Briefing
An early Health and Safety induction will cover PPE, fire exits and safely handling heavy materials around the Yard and Warehouse. This is a serious induction to highlight the potential hazards within the yard and warehouse.
Branch Tour
The induction will include a tour of the branch, of the trade counter, warehouse and the outdoor yard. This will enable you to become familiar with the layout and enable you to find stock and serve customers without having to keep asking for directions. Product Range and Stock Organisation
Time will be given to discuss the main product areas of the trade counter and how stock is organised in the warehouse/yard. As most people researching jobs for Selco are surprised by the amount of range and products held by Selco, this will help to get you up to speed.
Shadowing Colleagues
You will then begin to shadow other experienced staff around the shop floor, watching how to deal with a transaction or a customer’s enquiry, and then start to complete them yourself.
Probationary Period
The induction also is part of your Probation which lasts on average for 3 months.
Go in prepared and the first week will settle quickly.
